January is registration month for kindergarten programs across the city. Kindergarten is a time for your child to experience social interaction, develop communication skills, and learn through discovery and exploration. It is the first step in formal education and provides the foundation for future learning. There are many options available, and not all programs are the same! If you are wondering about choosing the right program, here is a checklist of things you may want to consider:
teacher to student ratio;
options for parental participation;
approach to social skill development;
appreciation of differing learning styles and learning at individual pace;
the curriculum focus;
enriched experiences outside of the classroom;
critical thinking skills vs rote learning;
outdoor playtime and physical education;
opportunities to experience diversity;
If you are not sure if your child is ready for kindergarten, (or a Junior kindergarten program), maybe we can help! We are hosting a Parent Information Session and Open House on Tuesday, January 16 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. Pre-register for our session online here, or contact us directly. Visitors and inquiries are always welcome!
Kindergarten registration for the 2018 – 2019 school year will take place on Tuesday, January 30 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm on a first come, first serve basis. Registration for our Junior Kindergarten program will begin on February 1 if spots are available.
